Global Art Project Response

You may remember I did the Global Art Project again this spring and sent art to my partner in Germany. I didn't hear back from her, so I assumed she blew me off and I forgot about it. Well, a couple of days ago I received art from her. This is a copy of the photo she sent with her art and holding the art I sent her. Her name is Christine. This years' experience was really rewarding, even if we don't continue to communicate.

"Wings"

New experimental art.  About a month ago, one of the art league members gave a demonstration on frame-less watercolor.  The idea is to attach a finished painting to a "cradleboard" with heavy body clear acrylic medium - trim off the excess around the edges and let it dry.  The next step is to carefully rub a wax medium onto the surface - gently rubbing to an even low gloss.  From there you can paint the edges and wire the painting on the back.

I wanted to try this on a smallish piece of art.  This is the finished watercolor.  I will update when I finish the mounting.  I haven't done a watercolor for ages.  Primarily, because of the cost of the matt, the frame and the glass on traditionally displayed watercolor.

Newest Art

"AuberGine"  (Yes, that is also the name of one shade of purple - word play.)  The inspiration for this started with a photo of the face; which yes, I have changed to avoid legal problems.

"BACK OFF!"

This painting is based on a real creature - an Armadillo Lizard from South Africa.  I just thought it looked too much like a dragon.  BTW, the little guy is only about the size of your palm.

Oh, and here is the actual animal,

"Family" circa: 2004

Finally finished this one. It was a request of my husband. I am not fond of doing self-portraits, and it was difficult doing my son - but here it is.

Sunflower for Ukraine

I have two other canvasses in the works, but interrupted them for this project.  The art league challenge for this month is a vase of flowers.  This seemed timely.

Online Store

I've been spending a lot of time updating and reorganizing my online ZAZZLE store.  This company takes your artwork and will print it on all sorts of items, to include posters and canvasses.  I still have a lot more to add, but this is a good start.  Maggie Huft: on Zazzle

Global Art Project for peace

Yes, it's that time again - and with the current world situation, it couldn't be more appropriate.  Even though I don't have an assigned partner yet; I am finished with my contribution and am posting early.

First finished art for 2022

It took two months, but it is finally finished.  It is not entirely what was in my head; but I'm not unpleased.  That fits the concept.  It's the idea of reaching out into the universe and pulling an idea into oneself.  Maybe it makes in all the way into consciousness - sometimes not.

New Website

I decided to move my website to GoDaddy.  This site is a lot cleaner than the old one, and much easier to upgrade.  It took a couple of days to get it organized; and I will definitely need to make adjustments - but it is up and running.

Updates

I am in the process of making changes to this blog.  Fine Art America and Linked In accounts have been closed.  My portfolio page belief-is-magic.com (by Yahoo) is no longer supported.  You can visit that site, but I can no longer make updates.  I am considering my options.

Sigh

I'm not posting new art this time - just a few comments to start the year. We are into a third year of this pandemic.  Not sure what my problem is...maybe the covid restrictions - or maybe that I have arthritis issues that make doing things more difficult.  My motivation is still quite low - so many other things to do and so little "give a shit".  BUT, I am working on all that.

The art league has started up again, although only 10 - 12 members have been showing up.  One excuse could be the week and a half of snow in early January - or - maybe the covid restrictions (we still wear masks).  One of our members brought in free blank canvasses she got from someone moving - so now I have over a dozen canvasses.  AND we have a date set to switch out artwork at a venue we haven't changed in over a year.  That is set for March.  I do have a canvass about half done and plans for another.  Also, this is a Global Art (for peace) year; and I've signed up to do that again.

Hopefully I will have new art to display soon.
